A Vintage Wedding, Reimagined!

 Image via Fashion Daydreams

I just adored Kate Moss’s bohemian, 1920s-inspired wedding dress. But an original interpretation of this vintage vibe kept her John Galliano-designed gown fresh and even a little edgy.  Although Kate was originally inspired by F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and his wife Zelda’s Jazz Age style for her wedding vision, she put her own spin on things.

Whilst the ethereal Fitzgerald theme obviously inspired the beautifully embroidered veil, the hem is all about Kate’s own character – spangled with tiny golden paillettes and decorated with the beaded plumes of an imaginary phoenix, a creature that is “delicate and defiant, like Kate,” said Galliano.

Kate and her dress designer worked together to create her dream day – she says:

I wanted it to be kind of dreamy and 1920s, when everything is soft-focus… That light and that kind of fun decadence. It’s rock-’n’-roll Great Gatsby!”

The result? A refreshing mix of old and new – of Kate and her groom’s rock’n'roll interests and delicate, retro references – something truly unique, just perfect for the Chic Weddings bride!

Looking for something similar? The English rose designer Alice Temperley embraces the same aesthetic with her feminine, floaty dress designs – and she’s just set up a bridal line! As the designer says, “People come in for something a bit more relaxed, not a normal bridal dress. They think of Temperley, and they think a bit more romantic and soft,  and of a dress that will look as good on the dancefloor as down the aisle.” Here’s a sneak peek at the Ophelia collection…

Martha Medeiros stunning dresses

When you go to New York for a short pleasant trip, you expect the best happening to you. Colours, images, chaos, work, a fast city rushing under your eyes while walking and enjoying a hot dog.

This time, I missed something… and maybe for the first time I noticed that Manhattan is missing that little creative side, which you can now find in Brooklyn. I had a long conversation with a woman living in THE island for more than 20 years and she confirmed that NY was different then. Artists, gangs and folks from the creative world would dine, seat to seat with high end top managers, bankers and lawyers. Nobody cared what the other was doing to survive,  which type of job or business because NY was the city where dreams came true. And sadly, I missed this atmosphere. Big brands have now taken the lead, shops look all the same as any other city and only a few are spared. Space rental fees are very high and only big brands can afford them and still survive. This trend, unfortunately, will kill creativity, obliging the good creative minds to move somewhere else.

While surrending to this branded society, I was walking through the women’s department at Bedford and Goodman and… I have been illuminated!

Creations! FABRICS, LACES, RIBBONS, DREAMS!!! This is something I was hoping to find! Marvellous creations made by a Brazilian designer named Martha Medeiros. It might be that Martha is already famous in most of the Latin American countries but I was not aware of her existence until I have touched her jewels.

I have to admit that these are not coming at the cheapest price but one artist, among those millions lost out there, caught my attention. My favourite gown is this light pink and I thought it could be the perfect one for my wedding :)… but then I turned around and I found another one, which could also be the right one… a black one…and then another green…

Or maybe an Oscar de la Renta light blue…I am not sure anymore! At the end of my days in the city, I can say that these were the dresses which caught most of my attention. For one moment I wished I was in Brasil to discover more about their creative potential and powerful resources.

“Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall…”

 Via weheartit

There truly is something of the fairy-tale about mirrors – and not just because of the ‘Magic Mirror’ role in the story of Snow White! Even today, in the real world, mirrors still hold a certain magic… the power to attract and ensnare, to hold our gaze, and to fascinate us with our own reflection…

That’s why I find these gorgeous dresses so enchanting. Whether it’s subtle, beautifully shaped shards of mirror forming a mosaic on a corset, or a dress made ENTIRELY out of mirrored material, these gowns would make truly original and eye-catching wedding dresses…

C’è una città di questo mondo,
ma così bella, ma così strana,
che pare un gioco di fata morgana
e una visione del cuore profondo.

Avviluppata in un roseo velo,
sta con le sue chiese, palazzi, giardini, .
tutta sospesa tra due turchini,
quello del mare, quello del cielo.

Così mutevole! A vederla
nella mattina di sole bianco
splende d’un riso pallido e stanco,
d’un chiuso lume, come la perla:

ma nei tramonti rossi affocati
è un’arca d’oro, ardente, raggiante,
nave immensa, veleggiante
a lontani lidi incantati.

The Designer Wedding Show 2012

From Cupcakes to Champagne, this year’s Designer Wedding Show was to inspirational!

There are many booths that made an imprint on me from this show. The show offered a wide rage of  wonderful live music, great Save-The-Date ideas, venues, accessories, innovative photographers, dresses, hats, dessert, caterers and tips to staying organised during the Wedding Planning process. It created so many new ideas.

After we had spent most of the day conversing with people and sharing our ideas of Wedding Planning, we spent a few minutes posing for the camera in a Photobooth (which was a great keepsake from the day). My highlight had to be of course, the Designer Fashion Show.

Matthew Williamson showed us some great gowns for this upcoming season.

Not suprisingly then BHLDN have designed another stunning collection for Spring 2012. The new collection shows some interesting styles, so finding a dress that captures you (or your alter ego) has just gotten easier. Take a look at some of these beauties…
