Tulip secret garden

 All images by Chicweddings

What can you discover while walking in a park in the Netherlands? … a secret Garden of Tulips of course… Oh ! And the scent of spring all around. I can’t explain why but tulips make me happy! So bright and colourful, they always place a smile on my face! I have found this secret garden and its space was divided into colours and type. Yellow and pink, red and purple, light pink and bright pink. I thought immediately that tulips are beautiful but how wonderful would be to divide them into colours and create a table colour palette divided into nouances ? Imagine a long table with tulips as centerpieces starting from nouances of strong red colour ending with light pink. A lively Dutch Tulip field as wedding table!

An All-American Wedding Favor

Image via weheartit

One thing I love about living in Cambridge? It is such an international city, with people arriving to study here from every corner of the world. Last week, I helped the loveliest American couple host their engagement party – and was inspired by their super-sweet party favors!

Making s’mores is a famous American tradition – roasting a marshmallow and a layer of chocolate, sandwiched between two graham crackers, over a campfire, to make a delicious dessert. In a cute nod to their culture, this USA bride gave each of her guests a small bag filled with the ingredients for two s’more biscuits, tied up with ribbon and a hand-written heart label with instructions on h0w to recreate the s’more effect in the microwave!

All the guests loved their s’more souvenirs - what a low-key, authentic idea for wedding favors! Of course, there are other ways to work these sweet treats into your wedding plans: how about a s’more dessert table on the day…

Or even a s’more-themed proposal?!

The delicate vision of shade

Image from  Belle the Magazine

Today I am captured by millions of shades as the sun is shining here in Italy. Finally thousands of shades of colours are reflecting in the sky, the summer sunsets are almost here.

Looking at this masterpiece of mother nature, I start surfing for shaded colour tables and look what I have found! I love this! Great idea for a small table, or even better starting from the middle, Bride and Groom seats, towards the end, left and right. Imagine… pictures should be, then, taken from the top but a similar effect wouldn’t that be beautiful?

Of course all this should be complimented with a wedding cake, and a dress, and a wedding aisle…

Here some inspirations!

In Italy, where we lay our scene!

Ciao, bella! I have just returned from my first ever visit to Verona and Venice – my new favourite cities!  Verona is everything you’d expect from an Italian city – bustling but quaint, full of beautiful churches and peaceful gardens, squares and piazzas filled with market stalls and cafes. Only in Verona can you eat donkey ragu pasta in a pizzeria inside a church, or taste some sospiri di Romeo ["Romeo's sighs!"], small chocolate hazelnut biscuits from the Pasticerria Cordioli! Delizioso!

Only in Venice instead, you will be stopped while walking into the small “calles”. Beautiful artist’s water colours, which are sold per weight will catch your attention. Here you can feel the city was the home of the artistic fresco’s sceneries of the past…and still it is! Corners are filled with details, walls talking about history, asking you for ” un pane per i poveri”… one bread, or coin,  for the poor!

Back to us: for all the incredible food, architecture and culture, Verona is first and foremost a city for lovers.

One of the most unique things about it is that there is graffiti everywhere.  But this is not the usual ugly, offensive graffiti you spot in every other city around the world – instead, almost every empty surface of Verona’s buildings are covered in hearts and the initials of couples in love. The city is covered in declarations of romance and true love, the histories of hundreds of thousands of happy couples…

Of course, one of the most famous sights in Verona is Juliet’s house. Here, too, the lovers of the city have left their mark: the beautiful bronze statue of Juliet watches over an iron gate which is covered in thousands of padlocks, each one bearing the name of a couple. Couples come from all over the world to write their names together on a padlock, clamp it to the gate, and throw the key away – symbolising that their love is eternal.

In anywhere else in the world, these scrawlings and padlocks would be vandalism – in Verona, the home of Romeo and Giulietta, they symbolise something else entirely: true love. Why not visit the most romantic cities in the world yourself, and leave your own padlock  with your beloved?

Here… looking up… from one of the most romantic city!

Bajan inspiration for a Barbadian style wedding

Sgrunt! I am back in London following 10 super days of surfing in Barbados. Apart from the fact that I am jet-lagged and my holidays are pretty much over, I can proudly say that my surfing skills have improved and that I have met a few new friends overseas. Lots of Turtles, lots of mangos and lots of beautiful colours: this is what I have taken away with me. Here are some images for a Bajan (Barbadian) inspired palette with a few accessories that you can easily purchase in London and would fit in well with any laid back island mood.

A Romantic Old Hollywood Wedding

It’s all too easy to be inspired by the glitz and glamour of Old Hollywood. But the gossip magazine scandals and high profile divorce cases make it much harder to find movie star role models for happy marriage – not to mention understated, sincere weddings!

But here’s one beautiful exception. In 1945, Lauren Bacall married Humphrey Bogart in a small, intimate ceremony at a friend’s country home. They remained very much in love until Bogart’s illness and death in 1957.

I have always been incredibly moved by this beautiful quote from Lauren Bacall, describing her wedding day – the perfect inspiration for your own speech, perhaps:

“It was all clear blue sky all the way – as I was sure our life would be. I couldn’t forget Bogie’s tears. Every time I looked at him I welled up. How had I lived before him? I couldn’t remember my life before him – it all ran together, like watercolors. It seemed that everything that had ever happened to me had led to this day with him. I don’t know whether it was his particular personality, his strength and purity of thought, or whether all brides feel that way. Probably a combination. I had no doubt that this happiness would last forever. I could not imagine living a minute without him. From now on I would not have to – we were together now, like the man said, ’till death do you part.’”

A Vintage Wedding, Reimagined!

 Image via Fashion Daydreams

I just adored Kate Moss’s bohemian, 1920s-inspired wedding dress. But an original interpretation of this vintage vibe kept her John Galliano-designed gown fresh and even a little edgy.  Although Kate was originally inspired by F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and his wife Zelda’s Jazz Age style for her wedding vision, she put her own spin on things.

Whilst the ethereal Fitzgerald theme obviously inspired the beautifully embroidered veil, the hem is all about Kate’s own character – spangled with tiny golden paillettes and decorated with the beaded plumes of an imaginary phoenix, a creature that is “delicate and defiant, like Kate,” said Galliano.

Kate and her dress designer worked together to create her dream day – she says:

I wanted it to be kind of dreamy and 1920s, when everything is soft-focus… That light and that kind of fun decadence. It’s rock-’n’-roll Great Gatsby!”

The result? A refreshing mix of old and new – of Kate and her groom’s rock’n'roll interests and delicate, retro references – something truly unique, just perfect for the Chic Weddings bride!

Looking for something similar? The English rose designer Alice Temperley embraces the same aesthetic with her feminine, floaty dress designs – and she’s just set up a bridal line! As the designer says, “People come in for something a bit more relaxed, not a normal bridal dress. They think of Temperley, and they think a bit more romantic and soft,  and of a dress that will look as good on the dancefloor as down the aisle.” Here’s a sneak peek at the Ophelia collection…

The Season For Picnics!

All the early springtime sunshine here in England has left me with picnics on my mind! Nothing is nicer on a bright, blue-skied April day than to lounge on the grass with some tempting finger food and a bottle of cava…

Why not take inspiration from this gorgeous outdoor ceremony – instead of a formal seating plan, let your bohemian spirit loose and lay out picnic rugs and baskets for the wedding dinner instead!

A Scent to Remember: Beautiful Sicily

Image via Costablog

Fragrance has always been a big part of my life and I try to use scents purposefully. To me, there is nothing more special than a frangrance that triggers a happy memory or dreams of discovering a new place.

The smell of Tiare reminds me of my magical trip to Hawaii a few years ago; the sun shining and beauty everywhere. The scent of Jasmine instantly takes me back to when I was living in Mumbai last year, where this scent was used to express luxury and opulence. Recently, I went looking for a new fragrance to enhance my mood in the form of room sprays and candles.

I’ve been using Ortigia products for over a year and everytime I use them, they take me away to an Italian paradise. Ortigia is a small town in Sicily, Italy and its beauty is captured in a scent form by a brand called Ortigia who make visually appealing products with smells to die for. The packaging alone is perfect to turn your bathroom into a little Siciliy.

Ortigia have expanded their range of products and my favourite scent from the range is Fico d’India which comes from a cactus plant. The scent is powdery and smells divine. If you are planning a wedding this summer, how about setting a mediterranean atmosphere with some Italian fragrances? The room sprays and candles not only look fabulous but will add a distinct scent to your day.

Take inspiration from this wedding where they’ve used Ortigia soaps as fabulous wedding favours for guests. What a beautiful idea for guests to remember your special day!

Dark chocolate white dress!

Via tastetv

I love an intimate wedding, something small and cosy with all of your favorite people around you, and your favorite chocolates of course…

 Courtesy of Said

A perfect location for such a wedding could be an old vintage style chocolate factory: dark wood, retro style furniture, dim lighting and steel moulds covering the walls.

In such a lovely setting one can have tables spread out in different areas of the location, to recreate a charming winter garden.

The loading dock, Brooklyn

Chocolate can be the third main component at the wedding, after the bride and the groom of course, so why not make it the table center piece.

Not only is chocolate beautiful to look at, but it also lifts up the spirits, puts your guests in a good mood and satisfies even the pickiest of palates.

And as a treat for your guests who must never leave empty handed….leave some vintage style small brown personalised paper bags on the table, so they can put together their own wedding favours… Or hand out hot chocolate cones..
