Tulips and other simple treasures for your wedding day

Courtesy of Quintessential Brides

I woke up on Sunday morning to sun-light pouring in my window, the breeze coming in was that bit warmer than before and my tulips were gasping in happiness at the sun, even tilting a little towards it.

I’m obsessed with tulips, my flower of choice, I usually put a bunch on my window sill and then use various small vases from junk shops i’ve collected to put one in each and dot them round the house, one in the bathroom next to my toothbrush, one next to my bed, and one for my flatmate for when she gets in from work.

The tulip can be used as table decorations, for your bouquet, as inspiration for your wedding invite, and even your dress. That beautiful shape turned upside down makes the most flattering and delicate of skirts.

The image below are of the tulips currently in my house, I personally think they make the perfect wedding flower, the colours are so vibrant, the green itself screams spring, droplets and that lush colour in fields at the start of Spring. They are taken using the instagram app on my iphone which I now could not live without! It gives everything that lovely holga look ( my inner photographer hates me for that statement, but it’s just far too convenient).

While we’re sharing pictures from home, take a look at these, one of our favorite things to do at any given time of the week when we have 15 mins to spare (this is rare) is grab a coffee and wander the local markets for any treasure, my personal favorite is Greenwich Market, London. Such beautiful finds! Have a look at some of the delights I picked up there last time I went!

Vintage mirror, perfect for your dressing table, the pillow case behind it highlights my fascination of Fawns, given my name is Fawne it’s kind of fitting but it has nothing to do with that! I have a million Fawn things dotted around my bedroom, old embroidered pillows, a mock stags head from Berlin, notepads, sketchbooks, ornaments and various other things!

I picked up some vintage jewellery also, this may look like a mess to some ( I call it an organized mess) but I am someone who likes to have all my precious finds on display, it’s my room, my partner cannot say anything.

I have a collection of 4 vogue prints I found in the attic of the old place I lived it (CAN YOU BELIEVE THE LUCK) they are just prints but date back to 1938, what a find! I bought the vase similar to the painting.

If you ever happen to be in Hackney, then head to Broadway Market, even though it is a little over-priced these days… it’s often best to stick to places such as Greenwich that are still (lucky for us) a little more unknown. This collection of chairs is next to ‘The Last Tuesday Society’, my favorite curiosities and oddities shop!

Just a reminder that great things can be found if you dig around for them!

Wedding diaries

If you are about to get married, you should keep a diary.  I do realise that our lives are so hectic nowadays and we never find the time to sit down and think…let alone write about our emotions. However, your life is in your hands and you can control it.

Keeping a diary is a lovely way to record your memories and pass them along to the next generation. As you have often asked your mother how she got engaged, your daughter will die to read about your wedding planning, your moments of joy and your anxieties. It would be a wonderful present to offer her when she unveils her decision to tie the knot.

And..reading about the reasons why you have chosen to marry the man of your dreams will also help during the rough patches…it will help you remember why you love him so much in the years to come.

You can write about your planning, your guests can add their comments to the diary on your special day and you can also offer diaries as favours. Everyone should start recording their thoughts on ink and not just on a screen of a computer…let’s go back to past traditions for once!

Photo Booth Phenomenon at wedding

Compliments of Ever So Lovely

It’s an obsession that is sweeping the nation. It’s a trend, that is covering the world. It’s a brilliant idea that has entrigued the hearts of many, and of mine. It is the Photo Booth Phenomenon!

Weddings far and wide have guests lining up to take a quick photo shoot for the bride a groom. Bride and grooms alike are enjoying getting these images printed and viewing pictures of all their happy guests. Photo booths are a great accessory for those who are camera shy. As they can have privacy, and when left with props and hats, who knows what will be seen on those photos!

Say thank you at your wedding…With a matchbox?

All images courtesy of Lobster and Swan.

I cannot explain my love enough of bits, cute little things, small enough to fit in your palm, thimbles, old stamps, matchboxes, minature figurines, coins, all locked away in what I like to call a memory box (an old shoebox), my treasure, my weird little things, kept out of view but opened every now and then to gaze at, hold, and then put back. To this day it shames me to say I collected precious stones as a child, however with age comes a more care-free attitude, and now I feel free to express my strange collectable behaviour as a child. First it was old bits I used to find round the house, a safety pin with a bow on it, the porcelein fish that fell off Grandad’s fisherman (an ornament Nanny had found him at a car boot sale.) Nutella coins, yep, they used to come with coins in the lid! A collection of badges, ripped paper with elegant hand-writing, pictures of dresses I longed for and pressed flowers I used to spend months hiding under piles of 15 books in my bedroom. If your not into playing tag, making mud pies and playing with skipping ropes as a child, then your considered weird. My fun came from Sundays spent at the Car Boot sale just near my hometown of Guildford. My Nan would give me 2 or 3 pounds and she says to this day she would lose me, later on finding me with my head in boxes underneath tables looking for gold.

So now, even to this day, I spend hours on Etsy looking for hand-crafted little things, that make no sense, but just beautifully exist and that’s treasure to me. You can imagine my delight when I came across these matchboxes, with so many over-done D.I.Y projects on the net it’s always a pleasure to come across something that makes you want to drop what your doing, pull out the PVC glue and spend hours sticking things together without a care in the world.

As you can see from the pictures above, they can be filled with anything, a necklace, cookie cutter, stamps, petals, a charm, just a token of your appreciation.

BUON CARNEVALE A TUTTI!

C’è una città di questo mondo,
ma così bella, ma così strana,
che pare un gioco di fata morgana
e una visione del cuore profondo.

Avviluppata in un roseo velo,
sta con le sue chiese, palazzi, giardini, .
tutta sospesa tra due turchini,
quello del mare, quello del cielo.

Così mutevole! A vederla
nella mattina di sole bianco
splende d’un riso pallido e stanco,
d’un chiuso lume, come la perla:

ma nei tramonti rossi affocati
è un’arca d’oro, ardente, raggiante,
nave immensa, veleggiante
a lontani lidi incantati.

Beach winter wedding decor

Images by Clara, styling by Chic Weddings in Italy

A beach wedding is beautiful in winter as well. Think of deserted coastal villages, long stretches of sand with nobody around, fur coats and straw baskets, a lighthouse, warm blue blankets and soft striped cushions on a hot February morning. I was born by the sea and of course got married right by the sea. I could not think of a BETTER place to tie the knot, I could not think of ANOTHER place. For me, my special day had to be all about swimming, enjoying the calm Mediterannean waters, drinking Malvasia and feeling the warm sun on my skin.

My sister though likes cold weather, she loves when the northern breeze caresses her cheeks in wintertime. She likes to cycle along the shore wearing thick jumpers and confy cashmere hats, boots and velvet trousers. She is probably the kind of person who would choose a winter month for her wedding celebrations.

Thinking about that…about the fact that not everybody likes to get married when it’s hot and sticky, I have created this February beach setting for a lovely, seaside wedding breakfast. I can picture the guests arriving at the church, located right on the beach, with their bicycle and a pic nic basket full of tasty delicacies to be enjoyed after the ceremony. A light breakfast, followed by a stroll on the beach where laid back pictures are taken while the bride and groom play in shallow water with their rain boots. Then, after sunset, everyone reaches the fishing village for a superb meal at the local “Osteria”.

What would the perfect attire for such an informal authentic wedding day be?

- A fur coat

- A chiffon dress

- A pair of Hunter boots

- A cashmere hat

Stunning and unusual weddings bands

When it comes to wedding bands, the choices have often been quite limited. Do you go for the plain yellow gold, white gold or the platinum? On a practicality front, plain wedding bands are great as they need little care and will still look as good in 20 years.

But a new wave of brides are craving something more spectacular to show off their married status. No more boring bands. These ladies want diamonds, unusual designs and even different colours (rose gold anyone?)

Luckily jewellery designers have caught onto this trend and are designing stunning wedding bands that not only are practical but consider personal taste a necessity, allowing you to choose a wedding band that reflects you. Here’s a pick of some of our favourites from De Beers and Tiffany & Co.

This unsual ring is great for brides who want to step away from the tradional wedding band. Not only is the shape of the ring unique but the diamonds add that extra touch of glamour. These gems are also available to stack if you’re not happy with just the one ring!

For the conservative brides, an antique diamond, maybe belonging to old family treasures?

Or instead, why not opting for a big dream such as a diamond crown… like a real princess?

Or maybe, just be different! Don’t buy a ring, just opt for a bracelet, an endless symbol to carry with you everyday…

Or simply… opt for a classic: This beautiful rose gold ring.

The Perfect English Proposal

Via Mind The Gap

One of the best things about studying in Cambridge? Whiling away hours on a sunny day with some friends and a bottle [or two!] of cava on one of the famous punts! There really is nothing more relaxing than gliding along the River Cam, past all of the beautiful colleges… or more romantic!

Via Segerius Bruce Photography

In fact, Scudamores have come up with the wonderful idea of a ‘Proposal Punt’ package! As the site describes: “Seemingly you have just booked a 60 minute College Backs Tour for two, but secreted out of sight are a bottle of chilled champagne and a spectacular bouquet of red roses… At the pre-arranged place the chauffeur falls silent and you take over!” It’s a great idea from any would-be grooms looking for a really original and unique way to ‘pop the question!’

More of an Italy lover than an Anglophile? With Eva and Clara‘s help, why not simply swap a Cambridge punt for an equally romantic gondola in Venice for the big event!

Fine Art Wedding Photography

Choosing the right photographer is always a very difficult task. There are so many options out there, which one is the best for you? Here are some very useful considerations from our friend and talented Denver photographer, Selah.

All Images by Selah Photography

“Have you ever walked in to a home and noticed that 16 x 20 on the wall which highlights the most significant day of the couples’ lives? You know, the one featuring big bangs, white suits, mustaches and long white puffy sleeves? Everyone who sees it is slightly embarrassed for them. Years goes by and the epic photograph full of significance slowly creeps its way into the back corner of the guest bedroom.

Are you an artistic trend-seeker yet aware of the dating effects of spot color, fish eye lenses and over-saturation? As time goes by one of two things can happen: The Persian kiss-like images only increase in value and the quality and intent behind the imagery allows for the photograph to remind you of the goodness of time. On the other spectrum, the trendy spot-colored cookie-cutter creativity is one that quickly dates. The modern becomes old and the fresh becomes disingenuous. How do you define the difference?

Fine art wedding photography is a fairly elite and unique service within the wedding photography industry. It can be defined as the kind of art you would hang on your wall even if you aren’t the bride and the groom. It reflects reality, something we can connect to while holding hands with dynamic and high-quality imagery. “I never would have seen that,” you may think upon observing that photograph.

When investing in your wedding photographer–look for an artist. Someone whose perception and vision is committed to creating a meaningful heirloom, rather than a picture showing what you looked like on that day. Search for that photographer who has the ability to create artwork that increases in value over time rather than causing you to close the drawer on your visual memories.”

So…the trick is picking a photographer whose shots will become pieces of art!!! Start searching..
